FAQs

  • The Montgomery County Delegation is the body of 26 Delegates and 9 Senators elected from districts that contain parts of Montgomery County. The House and Senate Delegations meet to consider legislation that has a specific focus on Montgomery County (local and bi-county bills).

  • Local bills have to go through a few more steps in the legislative process than statewide House or Senate bills. Before they get heard in standing committee local bills must receive:

-A public hearing before the Montgomery County Delegation (usually in the fall or winter before session)

-A favorable vote in a House Delegation Committee

-A favorable vote by the House Delegation

-Bi-county bill must also go through this process in the Prince George's County Delegation

After these steps are complete, the bill will have a hearing in the assigned standing House committee.

Local and bi-county bills must also be considered by the Senate Delegation before advancing in the Senate.
